SABECO-BACKED VIETNAM GLORY LAUNCHES 49th MARATHON

With sponsorship from the Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corporation (SABECO) Vietnam Glory honoured the nation's successful sportspeople of 2024 and helped launch Hanoimoi newspaper's 49th annual 'Run for Peace' and 'Olympic Run Day'.

The event took place in Hanoi on March 24 and is among many activities to celebrate the 78th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day on March 27.

Last year saw athletes participating in many major events such as the FIFA Women's World Cup, the 19th Asian Games, the Fourth Asian Para Games, the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th Para Games.

There were excellent achievements in many sports, with the best players and coaches of the year recognised through a national vote by sports journalists.

At the Vietnam Glory event, certificates of merit were handed out by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Vietnam Olympic Committee, while the most outstanding achievers granted labour medals from the president and certificates of merit from the prime minister.

"SABECO is honoured to sponsor this event in tribute to Vietnam's outstanding athletes and coaches. We are proud of their efforts and dedication in the name of Vietnamese sports, achieving renown not only in Vietnam but also around the world." said Lester Tan, CEO of SABECO.

"We are also proud to promote positive change for the development of Vietnamese sports through projects that support young talent and improve Vietnamese sports through practical actions," he added.

More than 4,500 participants, including nearly 1,000 athletes, ran around Hoan Kiem Lake following the launch.

All communes and districts will organise qualification heats for March, with the finals held from April to September. Hanoi's finale will be held in September at Hoan Kiem Lake.
